C.J.T. Wilkins is a black belt martial artist and instructor, living and working in the New Forest, England, where much of the books are set.

As well as being a martial artist, C.J.T. Wilkins is a keen student of horsemanship and is the privileged carer for three horses and a dog. Both the horses and the dog make appearances in the books.
